Siena is located 320 meters above sea level in the heart of Tuscany, this city built on the hills, maintaining intact its medieval appearance characterized by narrow winding streets and noble historic building. Siena has Etruscan origin, its greatest importance was in the Middle Ages.
After a long period of episcopal domination (from the 9th to the 11th century) the city reached its maximum splendor after becoming an autonomous municipality (1147) subsequently losing its autonomy after being conquered by the Florentines, becoming part of the Grand Duchy of Tuscany, sharing its fate until the unification of Italy.
